Facilitating Critical Appraisal Skills Workshop

This one-day workshop is highly interactive and aimed at those who need to facilitate workshops or journal clubs in a clinical setting. The workshop leader is an experienced facilitator who will share materials and examples to illustrate important teaching points.

Course Objectives:

  • At the end of the course you will:
  • Understand the importance of facilitating, rather than teaching, critical appraisal
  • Be aware of a range of tools for facilitating critical appraisal in healthcare
  • Understanding the importance of breaking the ice and getting groups to work together
  • Have appraised an article under pressure
  • Have been given some basic tips for troubleshooting answers to the familiar problems that happen during critical appraisal sessions.

  • Be aware of a range of tools for assisting in critical appraisal in healthcare
  • Be aware of a range of products based upon critical appraisal in healthcare
  • Understand the basic steps involved in appraising a randomised controlled trial and have
  • worked through an example as a group exercise
  • Have appraised an article on your own
  • Understand the basic steps involved in appraising a systematic review and have worked through an example as a group exercise
  • Have been given some basic tips for taking the skills learned back to the workplace.
