Evidence based practice is important as it aims to provide the best possible care for patients and clients. Listed here is a selection of resources and databases to help you find the best evidence available.

BMJ Best Practice

BMJ Best Practice is available to all NHS staff. This clinical decision support tool provides step-by-step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention of a wide variety of conditions. 

Mobile Access is available via the app. To use the app you must have a NHS OpenAthens account and you will need to create a personal account. Instructions are available on how to create a personal account and how to download the BMJ Best Practice app. With a personal account you can gain CME / CPD certificates for time spent on BMJ Best Practice.

ClinicalKey

ClinicalKey is a database which supports healthcare professionals by providing access to the latest evidence across specialties.

quick reference card is available which contains information about ClinicalKey and how to create a personal profile. With a personal profile you can save the content, create presentations and earn CME credits.

Mobile access is available via the app. To use the app you must have a NHS OpenAthens account and you will need to have created a personal profile. Instructions are available on how to download the ClinicalKey app.

Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library is a collection of databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making.

DynaMed Plus

DynaMed Plus is a resource that provides answers to your clinical questions at the point of care.

Staff can access DynaMed Plus via a NHS OpenAthens account. If you do not already have a NHS OpenAthens account then you can register for one here.

Mobile access is available via the app. Instructions are available on how to download the mobile app. 

Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS)

Search the healthcare databases including AMED, BNI, CINAHL, EMBASE, EMCARE, HMIC, Medline, PsycINFO, PubMed.

Please note that you will have to sign in with your NHS OpenAthens username and password in order to access the full range of resources available to you. If you do not already have a NHS OpenAthens account then you can register for one here.
